Wheeler Creek & Icebox Canyon Loop

The Wheeler Creek Loop is a moderate 4.7 mile hike that loops from Ogden Canyon near Pineview Reservoir in Ogden Utah. The loop is technically Wheeler Creek, Upper Wheeler Creek, and Icebox Canyon trails all combined so there are a couple options when selecting your route. I have mapped for you my preferred option, but exploring any of this area is well worth it! . During the summer I personally prefer the loop heading east to west, I find this is also best in the morning when the temperature is going to be 80F or higher. If hiking this in the evening I would reverse it and go west to east to give you more shade at the start of the hike.

This trail is amazing anytime of year as long as you are prepared for the elements, and it is especially stunning in spring and fall.

Moderate Difficulty

I am rating the Wheeler Creek Loop "Moderate" due to a couple spots with dramatic incline/decline and some rocky portions but the majority of the trail is in the "Easy" category. Be sure to keep an eye out and listen for cyclists on this loop! There are also sections where you might have folks riding horses on trail. This hike is good for families, beginner hikers, mountain bikers, trail runners, and everyone in between.

The Scenery

Wheeler Creek Canyon and Icebox Canyon both have stunning scenery including canyon walls, meadows, a calming creek, and the wildflowers are everywhere! Wildlife is also present on the trail occasionally so watch for Moose friends and rattle snakes. My favorite part is the Icebox Canyon, it twists and turns along a creek and has shade most of the way.

There are so many great hikes in Ogden Utah, this one is definitely rated one of my all-time favs! Overall a stunning and relaxing hike that I hope you try. Have you hiked this trail already? What is your favorite part?
